Many insurance plans in Maine have some coverage for acupuncture for certain conditions. Some plans are more limited than others; none cover acupuncture for "preventive" or "wellness" purposes. If your plan covers acupuncture for the condition for which you are seeking treatment, we may be able to bill your insurance company, directly. We are able to bill many major insurance companies, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna, and United Healthcare.
When you schedule an appointment or phone consultation with us, you will have the opportunity to submit your insurance information for verification. We will contact you with the details of your coverage--usually within 48 hours--however we ask that you call your insurance company directly and verify your benefits for yourself, as well. Firstly, it's not uncommon for patients and providers to get differing information, so comparing notes gives us some clarity prior to starting treatment. Secondly, verification is not a guarantee of coverage, and you are ultimately responsible for any portion of your visit not covered by insurance; to that end, it's important that you understand your benefits and what aspects of treatment your plan does and does not cover.
Depending on the details of your plan, we may provide complementary billing services for your treatments. If we are not able to bill your plan directly, we will provide you with a superbill receipt so that you can seek reimbursement, directly.
